MY PLANS FOR GREY

some of the things I am working for:

• Planning for our future water needs  -  Provide alternatives to River Murray water – incentives for water capture and storage – support for a water production industry and access to pipeline infrastructure
• Work towards the relocation of the proposed Upper Spencer Gulf desal plant
• Give local hospitals more control – Liberals to restore more power to local hospital boards
• Provide more services for mental health and respite for disability carers – Liberals to expand frontline mental health services with a new $1.5 billion Mental Health Plan – new dementia program – more respite day care
• Affordable dental care
• Encourage the upgrade and renewal of poorly maintained regional and outback roads
• Address school truancy
• Increase educational opportunities – youth allowance, teaching degree for UniSA, Whyalla campus
• Encourage investment and confidence in business to create jobs
• Protect our food producing industries – insist on imports meeting Australian food standards – better labelling
• Improve infrastructure and Port development – fast track a new major port and rail network for Eyre Peninsula – upgrade Thevenard Port
• Support for our veterans
• Fast affordable broadband – why should taxpayers pay for a metropolitan network that industry is already rolling out? – on an equity basis government should only need to help fund fast speeds for regional Australia

It is a great honour to serve as the Member of Parliament for the electorate of Grey.

The diversity of this electorate is breathtaking and abounds with natural wonders- a rich Aboriginal heritage and the great stories and icons of the Australian Outback.

From the sheer wonder of the Great Australian Bight, the magnificent Flinders Ranges, the vast beaches and rich farmlands of the Yorke Peninsula and Mid North to the old Ghan railway, the Birdsville, Oodnadatta and Strzelecki Tracks, Grey is full of possibilities.

However, its greatest resource is its people.

Grey has a huge cultural heritage reflecting the immigration surges of the last two centuries. We are infused with a commitment to Australia. Experience, youth, wisdom, skills and above-all, enthusiasm, will underpin our efforts to continue to develop this region which encompasses most of South Australia.
