Adelaide North Jobs Fair Launched

Federal Member for grey Rowan Ramsey said he was pleased to represent Employment Minister Michaelia Cash at the launch of the Jobs fair in Adelaide North today.

“Minister Cash is passionate about getting people into work and this Jobs Fair is all about that,” he said.

“With more than 50 employers in attendance at the event there were 1400 jobs listed on the noticeboard.

“The Federal Government contribution of $80,000 toward this and five other Jobs Fairs to be held across Australia is a great investment in securing jobs for Australians.

“This combined with the State Government contribution of $25,000 and Toyota contribution of $50000 has ensured the great success of the Jobs Fair.

“City of Playford Mayor Glen Docherty has been a staunch advocate for the workers in his region and is supportive of any strategies to find meaningful employment for people affected by the automotive industry closures.

“It is my firm belief the most important way to advance in life is to have a job. This is the focus of Minister Cash and the Government.

“In conjunction with the State governments and the automotive sector, the Australian Government

has put in place this response strategy to assist retrenched workers from eligible automotive

manufacturers and suppliers and to support workers and communities affected by the transition of the automotive industry.

“Job seekers in the Adelaide North region were able to explore new job opportunities and connect with potential employers.”

Mr Ramsey acknowledged the challenges facing the South Australian labour market, particularly for people affected by in transition industries.

“The retrenchments in the automotive sector are clearly having an impact on this great region, but I know that local people are up to the challenge and this Jobs Fair will help them explore some of the available employment opportunities and pathways,” he said.
