Federal Member for Grey Rowan Ramsey MP said he was
delighted to officially unveil the Edithburgh Tidal Pool Mural last Wednesday.
The Edithburgh Progress Association was granted funding
under Round Two of the Government’s Stronger Communities Programme
to restore the pool and improve
the pool area. A feature of the work is a stunning mural designed and painted by
the Edithburg Progress Association member Darryl Lewis at the site.
Edithburgh Tidal Pool is a unique site in SA”, Mr Ramsey said.
“I was so
impressed the first time I saw it, it is reminiscent of the tidal pools on
Sydney’s beaches, only better”.
Association was awarded $14,400, under the Stronger Communities Programme and this
combined with their wonderful efforts and the support of the councithe means his
fantastic local asset has not only been refurbished, it has been enhanced.
fencing, steps and concrete work have ensured safety and guaranteed the
structural integrity of the pool, however the beautiful mural which features
300 individual handprints from local school students and is complete with acrylic
pelican droppings adds to the authenticity of the scene and is now providing an
community artwork which will ensure increased interest on that basis alone.”
There was a
sizeable local crowd for the opening and Mr Ramsey said that reflected town
pride and the interest residents had in the project.
said the Stronger Communities Grants had supported a great number of local
communities across the electorate and thought at least three more on Yorke
Peninsula were likely to be supported under the assessment for Round Four
taking place at the moment.
“I congratulate the Edithburgh Progress Association on its vision and success in ensuring the unique piece of SA infrastructure securing
this funding and the wonderful mural.”
