Member for Grey Rowan Ramsey has announced Cowell’s foreshore is to benefit from a $3m grant from the Federal Government’s highly successful Building Better Regions Fund.
“The council had been pursuing this project for some time and I am pleased it has been successful”, Mr Ramsey said.
“The District Council of Franklin Harbor has secured $3 million to help finance the redevelopment of the Cowell Foreshore – named ‘Healthy Oysters, Healthy Tourism, Cowell Foreshore’,” Mr Ramsey said.
“The project will bring about an enormous change for Cowell with the council, oyster industry, school, tourism operators and the community coming together to bring about the best result.”
The project will redevelop the foreshore precinct which will include expanded marina, improved road infrastructure, commercial and restaurant buildings, an expanded visitor information centre, and outdoor public space with adventure playground. The construction will also provide critical alternative employment for farmers in this time of drought.
“The Building Better Regions Fund has delivered almost $4m in this current round in the electorate and will take the total delivered out of this program and its predessor to more than $40m since we came to government in 2013,” Mr Ramsey said.” It underlines our commitment to rural Australia.”
“Projects such as this make our regional communities even better places to live, work and raise families and I’m excited to see the positive difference this funding will make to the community.”
“We are supporting our regions through investing in important local infrastructure, as well as great community-building and planning initiatives under the Building Better Regions Fund and other Government priorities such as the Regional Growth Fund and our decentralisation agenda,” Mr Ramsey said.
“In this round Australia wide we are investing more than $70 million of a program total of $200m in regional tourism infrastructure, to support communities that rely on tourism to bolster their economy.
“We have seen fantastic outcomes from the first two rounds and I have been very happy with the funding that has made its way into Grey communities. This announcement continues the Government’s commitment to unlocking the economic potential of regional Australia and ensuring our regions continue to thrive.”
