Member for Grey Rowan Ramsey has announced Pika Wiya Health Service is to get a “Men’s Shed” as a result of a $144,500 grant from the Federal Government’s highly successful Building Better Regions Fund.
“The construction of this new facility will provide space and an environment for Pika Wiya to deliver a wide range of engagement programs based on traditional prctices including yarning circles and woodcarving”, Mr Ramsey said. “It will work toward supporting participants to improve their health literacy, access to health services and connectiveness to other males.”
“We are certainly looking for better results in combatting suicide, diabetes and promoting mental health”, he said.
“The Federal Government contribution through the BBRF will be matched by a 50% contribution from Pika Wiya. I very pleased that the Pika Wiya Health Service Aboriginal Corporation were successful in their application for funding towards their Men’s Shed,” Mr Ramsey said.
“The Building Better Regions Fund has delivered almost $4m in this current round and it will take the total delivered to more than $40m since we came to government in 2013,” Mr Ramsey said.” It underscores our commitment to rural Australia.”
“Projects such as this make our regional communities even better places to live, work and raise families and I’m excited to see the positive difference this funding will make to the community.”
“We are supporting our regions through investing in important local infrastructure.
“In this round Australia wide we are investing more than $70 million of a program total of $200m in regional tourism infrastructure, to support regional communities that rely on tourism to bolster their economy.
“We have seen fantastic outcomes from the first two rounds and I have been very happy with the funding that has made its way into Grey communities.
