The Federal Government is investing in the future of Grey with almost $10 million in funding under Round 5 of the highly successful Building Better Regions Fund.
Federal Member for Grey Rowan Ramsey said he was delighted that the Parham Short-Stay Facility will receive $100,000 to upgrade and revitalise facilities at the Port Parham free campground.
“I am so pleased to announce these projects which communities have invested so much time and effort into bringing to fruition,” he said.
“The Port Parham Short-Stay Facility Upgrade will receive $100,000 which is half of the required finance to upgrade and revitalise facilities at the Port Parham free campground,” he said.
“Port Parham is wonderful small coastal community that far too many people drive past without appreciating what is there. Offering free camping is certainly an attraction to many on the road in increasingly self-contained caravans and motor homes.
“The facility currently has toilets, picnic table and shelter and an electric barbecue and is a great spot to do some fishing, swimming or boating.
“Upgrading the camp site and these facilities will bring more people to Port Parham, add to the economy and provide its attraction as a free camping ground.”
Mr Ramsey said the Grey electorate has outperformed over a long period of time in attracting support from the BBRF program.
“Since we came to government in 2013 more than $60m has come to Grey,” he said.
“That is a reflection of the diversity and opportunities in our regions, it’s passionate and highly motivated communities and the quality the submissions. Well done to them!”
He said that 10 excellent projects in Grey had won support in this round including boarding facilities in Cleve, a significant upgrade of sporting facilities in Roxby Downs and a new jetty at the Yacht Club in Coffin Bay, all of which will have a real impact on local economies and communities.
Mr Ramsey said previous rounds of BBRF investment in regional communities has delivered better facilities and economic opportunities across Grey.
“BBRF has help fund the Bratten Bridge upgrade in Tumby Bay, the Clare aerodrome, the Remarkable Southern Flinders project, the Cowell Foreshore development, a sewerage system in Peterborough and many other excellent projects developments across Grey.
“We are backing these projects so local people have the facilities for the future, while creating jobs to boost our economic recovery.
“I have worked closely with local councils and community groups and I am proud to be part of a Government that will listen to and deliver for our communities.”
Under Round 5 of the BBRF, the Government has committed almost $300 million to support 295 projects across regional Australia, which will create an estimated 9,900 jobs during the project period.
Successful projects in Grey include-

- $2,534,604 for the Clare Sports Precinct Redevelopment
- $1,586,029 Balaklava’s Pool for All project
- $2,739,837 for the Roxby Mining Life Raft
- $118,633 for the Marion Bay Playground Project
- $600,712 for the Coffin Bay Tourism Project
- $100,000 for the Parham Short-Stay Facility Upgrade
- $20,000 for the Yorke Peninsula Tourism plan
- $20,000 for the Port Lincoln Economic Development and investment Attraction Strategy
- $20,000 for the Kati-Thanda Lake Eyre Water Event Response Plan
This latest funding round takes our total support through the BBRF to $1.38 billion across nearly 1,300 projects.
