The election has not been called as yet, but already the Climate 200 backed Candidate for Grey Anita Kuss is peddling outright lies throughout the electorate in a desperate bid to win votes.
Federal Member for Grey Rowan Ramsey said pamphlets and social media posts distributed by Ms Kuss claiming the Liberal Party has indicated it will not honour the funding announcement of support for the Whyalla steelworks are a complete fabrication.
“I have spoken to Opposition Leader Peter Dutton who has categorically assured me the Coalition remains committed to working with the State Government to support measures necessary to deliver a long-term outcome for the steelworks and securing a new owner,” he said.
“This is a completely false allegation, when the package was announced Peter Dutton came out immediately and backed the deal and remains fully committed.
“I am shocked that a candidate whose own social media is proclaiming herself as honest and trustworthy has fundamentally failed her own standard at the first opportunity.
“Anita Kuss knows me well, I worked with her to win the funding for UniHub, the organisation which now employs her. She has my number and chose not to call me to check the veracity of these lies which I suspect were fed to her by her Climate 200 backers.
“I can assure the electors of Grey the Liberal Party is committed to manufacturing in Australia.”
Mr Ramsey said the Opposition supports the decision by the South Australian Government to place the Whyalla Steelworks into administration.
“The economic contribution of the steelworks is immense. We recognise the need to provide stability and the necessary support where required,” he said.
“It is clear Labor’s energy policies are killing the competitiveness of Australian manufacturing with the news today that Nyrstar in Port Pirie is also struggling to break even.
“Businesses in Whyalla and the Upper Spencer Gulf know you cannot run a full-time and functioning economy using part-time and unreliable power.”
Mr Ramsey said it is time Labor and the Climate 200/Teals accepted green hydrogen has a long way to go before it is a commercial reality.
“The Coalition will not support taxpayer money going into a green hydrogen project that is never going to get off the ground,” he said.
“If elected, we will ensure gas and nuclear play key roles in a balanced energy mix to support Australian industry.”
