Federal Member for Grey Rowan Ramsey has announced that the Sea Rescue team based at Wallaroo is to get a new “state of the art” operations and training facility as a result of a $305,590 grant from the Federal Government’s highly successful Building Better Regions Fund.
Mr Ramsey said, “The construction of this new facility will provide the Copper Coast region with first class facilities for marine rescue operations, communications and training. Once completed the centre will be able to offer improved marine communications to service the boating public in the Spencer Gulf region as well as a faster response time for our search and rescue vessel to be able to be respond to calls for assistance, it will also provide much improved facilities for our volunteer members.”
“I am very pleased the South Australian Sea Rescue Squadron was successful in their application for funding to construct their new facility in Wallaroo,” Mr Ramsey said. “The new location of the building will be close to the Wallaroo boat ramp, one of the busiest in the state. The exposure will give the boating public using the ramp a sense of security in knowing that a rescue service is close at hand.”
“The Building Better Regions Fund has delivered almost $4m in Grey in this current round and will take the total delivered out of this program and its predessor in the electorate to more than $40m since we came to government in 2013,” Mr Ramsey said.” It underlines our commitment to rural Australia.”
“Projects such as this make our regional communities even better places to live, work and raise families and I’m excited to see the positive difference this funding will make to the community.”
“In this round Australia wide more than $70 million of the program total of $200m has been designated to regional tourism infrastructure, to support communities that rely on tourism to bolster their economy. This new facility at Wallaroo will be a strong support to regional tourism.
“We have seen fantastic outcomes from the first two rounds and I have been very happy with the funding that has made its way into Grey communities. This announcement continues the Government’s commitment to unlocking the economic potential of regional Australia and ensuring our regions continue to thrive.”
