Federal Member for Grey Rowan Ramsey has pledged his strong support to help preserve the Port Augusta Wharf following the presentation of an engineer’s report to the council outlining the condition of the structure.
“The Port Augusta Wharf is an iconic and essential part of Port Augusta’s infrastructure and needs to be preserved,” he said.
“A lot of effort has gone into beautifying the area and the wharf is part of the soul of the city.
“The council is working through a response to this report and what will be required. They will seek firm costings which will not happen over night but I am happy to look at a three-way solution between the Council, State and Federal Government’s restore the wharf.
“I will be working with Mayor Brett Benbow and the council though that process.
“I have already spoken with State Member Dan van Holst Pellekaan and we will work together to bring about a positive result.
“The wharf is heritage-listed, it has played an important role in the town’s history and is too important to demolish.”
